The Deputy Director of Land Use and Community Development is appointed by and reports directly to the Director of RMA. This executive level position is an “At-Will” position that serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. The Deputy Director is a key member of RMA’s executive team; provides overall leadership and management of the Land Use and Community Development Division’s staff, programs, and operations; provides leadership and oversight to planning, engineering/development services, building inspection, permitting, code compliance, surveyor, transportation, and environmental services; works closely with the Deputy Director of Public Works and Facilities and Deputy Director of Administrative Services; and assists the RMA Director to further the Division’s and Resource Management Agency’s goals and objectives.

Qualified candidates will typically have education, experience and training equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, business administration, engineering or related field and seven (7) years of increasingly responsible planning or community development experience including supervising and managing a major division of a land use planning, building services, engineering, or redevelopment organization for a large public organization or private entity comparable to Monterey County. Master’s degree in a land-use discipline, business management, engineering, and/or AICP certification is highly desirable.
